I was born and raised in Burlington, ON – honestly, it’s a relatively boring suburb.  I’m not sure if it best described as a suburb of Hamilton in the past, or of Toronto in the present.  It has multiple stops on the GO Train line, so many people who live there commute to Toronto.  My father, who grew up in Hamilton, ON, considers Burlington to be a classier city, but personally I’ve always found it lacking character.  It doesn’t have any grit, and it doesn’t have any academia. It’s home to many corporate headquarters, like offices for TD, or other banks, and the Voortman Cookie Factory.  People used to come to Burlington to go to the IKEA.  There isn’t a coat factory there, that’s an American thing.  There are many Burlingtons in North America.

Best things to do in Burlington:

  • Go to Tucker’s Marketplace for a “fancy-ish” buffet dinner (it’s free on your birthday)
  • Go to Fortino’s grocery store and buy a Roma Pizza (must do)
  • Wander around the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) and feed chickadees
  • Check out the Value Village
  • Order wings delivery at Wings Up
  • Wander around IKEA
