Melanie Laurie – Now

Vancouver, BC, Canada

I am thrilled to live in a such a culturally diverse place.  My children have access to so many different types of cultural learning opportunities, from Chinese calligraphy lessons to the Highland Games. They love to celebrate Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter and the New Moon Festival.  It is all normal to them; it is a part of who they are and who we are as a family.  They ask their grandparents to tell them childhood stories, and they realize that our families originate outside of the country we live in.  They are excited to visit China, Scotland and the Ukraine, and we are excited to take them because we also have not been there.  We all desire to understand our origins through a sense of place.
